In 1972 the Belgian designer Diane von Furstenberg, based in New York City since 1969, launched her own collection under her husband’s name and acquired a following thanks to a jersey knit cotton dress which would sell under the slogan: Feel like a woman. Wear a dress.  Two years later, Diane von Furstenberg launched the crossover wrap dress made from a single piece of fabric tied at the side or to the front, which became an instant bestseller and by 1975, 15,000 wrap dresses were sold a week, an impressive sale which made the Guinness Book of Records.  In 1997, after a 20-year break, Diane von Furstenberg came back to the New York fashion scene with her iconic wrap dress, making her company one of the most prestigious houses in the world. In May 2016, Jonathan Saunders joined DVF as the brand’s Chief Creative Officer, managing all design and creative. He has reinvented the clothing, disinterring it from the depths of the 1970s and giving it an updated, cheerful sophistication.
